all i ever want to do is write cute pop songs. this is an album of ambient music i just released,, not exactly indiepop, however all music i ever make comes along with the fact that i've been obsessively listening to cute and soft music for the past 10 or so years (since i randomly came across tiger trap on the internet in 8th grade and then found the ever-edited wikipedia page for "twee pop") so whether it is ambient, rock or noise i really think of it all as pop in the core of my mind. its all just a vessel to convey the raw feelings of love and longing that carry me onward and to immortalize a specific and un-nameable feeling into a short piece of sound. i recorded this album over the past year or so, mostly sitting in bed late at night. when i set out to make this album my goal was to create an entirely acoustic ambient album, with dense layering of acoustic guitar, glockenspiel and brass instruments. i live in a small apartment with roommates who have very different sleep schedules from myself so i often find that late at night, when inspiration strikes to record some music, i'm not able to play any acoustic instruments. in a large part, what this album became arose from the necessity of making soft electronic music on headphones so as not to bother my roommates. i experimented a lot with sampling; on casio keyboards, old tracker programs and through programming esp32 microcontrollers. i wanted to create music that felt very small and close to you, like a trinket found in an old box at a flea market, and so i refused to use any delay or reverb effects (except on track 11, and on one sample in track 6). instead, when i wanted a sound to appear more spacious or enveloping, i would just record the part a dozen times with slight variations (because what is reverb but a bunch of delayed reflections off of walls, why not make all these reflections manually?) this music is a summary of the past year of my life, spaced out and slowly plodding along. many of the songs have been reworked throughout live performances, so id like to give a big thank you to anyone who has organized shows i've played at, there are few things i love more than playing my songs live :~)
